Since my times as student of political science and international economic affairs, I have always found the G7, now G8, among the most boring of topics ever. A pretty dull talking shop that might have been useful in the 1970s, when it was about getting to grips with global macroeconomic changes. But now G8 summits end up in pretty empty declarations on all sorts of topics.
Fredrik Erixon though, has a nice little post on its need to change. I will outsource my commenting on the upcoming Heiligendamm meeting to him who knows better.
